As a mom of young children, I feel out of touch a lot of the time. I almost never get to read and when the TV is on, it’s cartoons and I’m fixing dinner. In rare moments of solace, (ahem, in the bathroom), I scroll social media to zone out for a minute. In doing so I see adorable mommy bloggers with their scriptures and inspirational memes; I see my childless friends posting pictures of their pets; and my young family members posting selfies or pictures of their lattes. Once in a while though, I see a post from a famous face that makes me feel normal. For some reason, I can’t get enough of celebrities keeping it real about parenthood. Here’s my favorite parents on Instagram (in no particular order):
P!nk (@pink), Ms. Alecia Moore, Mama to Willow and Jameson, loves to keep it real on Instagram. She posts the good, the bad, and the ugly. If she gets any sass from strangers, she’s not afraid to clap back and when she does, it’s oh so juicy. This one-woman testament to feminism and bad-assery has posted pumping selfies while in full hair and make-up, nursing during a hike, and about her toddler son hating his swim lessons. When she was widely criticized for making her young son take swim lessons against his will, Michael Phelps came to her defense. Parents have to stick together!
I don’t think there’s a more adorable mom on Instagram than Jennifer Garner (@jennifer.garner). From being a mom of 3, to raising chickens, to advocating for “No Kid Hungry,” her posts are always warm and sweet. She even posted a picture of a note her 9 year old left that read, “When I grow up, I want to be a fun-killing mom, just like you!” If that’s not relatable, I don’t know what is.
It’s no secret that Chrissy Teigen (@chrissyteigen) is sassy and witty on Twitter, but since becoming a mom to Miles and Luna, her Instagram posts resonate with me more so than before. Again, in keeping with the other parents on this list, she keeps it real. She posts her burnt Thanksgiving pies and Luna’s sassy moments but she also shares the cute moments like when she had to pretend nurse Luna’s baby doll while simultaneously nursing baby Miles.

As father to 3 girls, The Rock (@therock) aka Dwayne Johnson has his own unique definition of “Dad Bod” and it’s a wonder to behold. Aside from posting workout selfies (wouldn’t that be enough to follow?), he posts adorable candids with his young daughters. Like the time his toddler wanted to paint his toes before he left for work, but settled for his face. There are actually multiple pictures of him getting his nails painted and I promise you, no matter what kind of day you’re having, watching The Rock get a Crayola marker manicure will make you smile.
I admit I might be envious of their lavish vacations or the amazing media center I happen to catch a glimpse of in the background. At the same time, I find it oddly satisfying to know that on any given Tuesday, The Rock may be subject to the same kind of princess makeover I’m currently surviving.
