There’s always that one mom that makes you doubt your own sanity and place within the world. How could she get it right and remember every little thing – it is not possible; every bake sale, party, show and tell, book day, ice lolly day, civvies day, sports day, assembly and then you thank the world that she just exists because how else would you know when any of these events were taking place.
We all need these mothers.
Now for the rest of us…
“Mommy, why do you always forget everything?”
Yes, it’s true – I have “Mom Brain.” I know, I have admitted it–we all need to start somewhere, just say it.
It all started just over six years ago, I was diagnosed or rather diagnosed myself when I was pregnant and since then the “mom brain” symptoms have worsened.
Very few cures exist presently, but these seem to make at least some difference:
- Wine
- Exotic holidays to luxury resorts
- And some mothers say running–how dare they?
- Ironing
- Reading
Now the thing is “mom brain” really does exist. I know that there are so many of us who feel out of character every day or wonder if we are “losing it;” mom brain my fellow mommies is real and I need all of you moms to know that you are not alone. Is it because of pregnancy? Probably, or possibly hereditary too.
My mother (bless her) managed to “forget” my brother at the store, not once, yes twice, and this was not even purposefully done, she honestly forgot him.
She was ALWAYS late, always–time was truly her nemesis.
And even though she forgot our names and what time to fetch us, she was and still is a great mom. Luckily, the “mom brain” seemed to improve with her grandchildren–there’s hope for us all.
So what other reasons could there possibly be?
- Hormonal changes – check
- Emotional changes – check
- Sleep deprivation – check
- Being a busy mom – check
- Feel like you are “losing it” once in a while – check
Solution 1 – Post-it notes are now my best friend
Solution 2 – The calendar on my phone: my soulmate (I only started using this wonderful app after I forgot to take my son to a kid’s party).
Finally, life seems better, we can do this!
