C-section mamas! Please share a post-op life hack that helped you get through recovery. Following my first CS, I avoided straining my abdominal muscles by tying a rope to my bed frame and sometimes footboard to help hoist myself up out of bed. This helped SO much when trying to get out of bed for the first few weeks post-op. How did you speed up your recovery? ![]() |

My firstborn was delivered unexpectedly by C-section and I was totally unprepared for how long it would take me to recover. I really struggled to get up out of bed for the first few weeks and had no realised how often we use our abdominal muscles, until it was painful to do so.
With my second child, I was better prepared and knew what to expect. After my first C-section, I waited a full day before getting out of bed. This was a bad decision as I was stiff and in a lot of pain the following day. With my second child, I asked the nurses to please make sure I was up and about as soon as it was safe to do so. I had a shower within hours of my delivery and was able to walk to the nursery to introduce my eldest child to her baby brother. On the advice of my doctor, I also added extra fibre to my diet to prevent constipation; you don't want to have any digestive issues after a major abdominal surgery!
At home I had arranged for a bed that was higher and firmer than my regular bed. It made it far easier to lie down and get up again, and I followed the advice of the nurse who showed me how to roll out of bed rather than use my abdominal muscles to sit up. I bought myself a feeding pillow to ensure that there was something soft across my belly to prevent my baby from kicking my very tender wound.
Lastly, I found it very helpful to have several meals pre-cooked and frozen for the first week at home. It can be very overwhelming adjusting to life with a newborn, and not having to prepare dinner made a huge difference.

Ooh thats a great hack!
I had no idea about how hard it would be after my C- section and just realized I needed to ask for help with bending, avoid stairs, rolling out of bed and that I could use my toes to pick up things if I dropped them!! I also had a handy claw device to pick things up instead of bending for those first few days.
