How do I find work-from-home jobs?
< 1 min read
I am a teacher in my last trimester of pregnancy. I am looking forward to this little one being a part of our lives soon, but I am already dreading the thought of going back to work. I am considering working from home in one capacity or another to extend my time with our first child. I do not know where to start on a new career path. I was wondering how I go about finding a job where I can work from home and have the flexibility that I would need to juggle an infant and work simultaneously. Any thoughts? ![]() |

I have worked virtually for 17 years. I found my first position, as an administrative assistant through a woman's magazine! There was an article about the founder of the company who used her passion for reading and turned it into a profit through managing online book clubs for public libraries, utilizing SAHMs as her employees. I took the initiative to email her to let her know I was also a SAHM, and believed I had a skill set which would be an asset to her company. I was hired within the week!
So, besides Upwork, Fiver, and also LinkedIn, try reading through some publications and see if a company is featured which sparks an interest with you. Put yourself in front of them and be bold in your approach. You are your best saleswoman!!
Good luck!

Congratulations and what an exciting time in your life. I am a teacher as well and have spend time at home to raise babies (we have 7 children). When my kids were really little i did family daycare at home and loved it (although that isn't everyone's cup of tea). You could also consider freelance writing. There are loads of jobs on Upwork centred around parenting and education.

Congratulations on the baby! I feel your sentiment. I was a chef before having kids and I knew once I had them, I would not want to go back to work in person. Over the years I've found a few successful outlets for finding various work-from-home jobs.
Online tutoring or teaching English to children in foreign countries seems to be a very popular one when I do a simple Google search. That might be something worth looking into with your background.
Do you like to write or create? Upwork and Fiver are great freelance platforms. You can find projects like writing blog posts, data entry, or graphic design. I would say these type of jobs allow for the most flexibility with your schedule.
Another idea that I have found success with is reaching out to local organizations and see if they need part-time/contract help. For example, I asked our local community center if they would like cooking tips to publish in their monthly newsletter.
Once you are comfortable and your baby is a little older, maybe you could watch another baby around the same age? Then your baby has a friend and you could make a little extra money, too.
These don't yield full-time salaries, but I do like being able to make a little money here and there. I hope this helps!
