How to pick a pediatrician
< 1 min read
Our pediatrician is retiring soon and closing the practice. I was wondering how to find a pediatrician in the area that will be as well-loved as our previous doctor. I would love to find one that listens to my concerns and takes my values into consideration as well. ![]() |

Recommendations, recommendations, recommendations! Go to your trusted parental friends, the ones who you feel the most connection to and ask. This is the one way to find a good one in my opinion as there are too many options out there and Yelp reviews cannot be trusted.

Word of mouth and asking around is your best option. Our local community has a parents and caregivers Facebook group where people ask for suggestions and referrals to doctors. It's very helpful because you can get honest opinions (both good and bad). Also, your OB/GYN might have some good recommendations, as I'm sure they give that info to new mothers often.
Once you've narrowed it down, I hope you can call the offices and speak directly to the pediatricians, even if just for a few minutes. If they are too busy to get on the phone for that, they're likely too busy for new patients. We like doctor's offices with patient portals. I've found that they are extremely handy when it comes to scheduling appointments and asking questions that may not require a phone call. Just something to consider!
