I am overwhelmed by my kid’s social calendars, what can I do?
< 1 min read
I am a single parent with two very engaged and active kids. They both participate in a number of sports and after-school activities and also both have very busy social lives. I work from home in a position that allows me some flexibility, but I find that all of my spare time is taken up driving between sports practices, school events, and play dates. Are there any apps out there that can help me to co-ordinate and streamline all the running around I do? I am exhausted! ![]() |

This sounds like our lives! I have two very active boys and our schedules are a little insane. I can't help with the scheduling, but that app sounds amazing. I use a color coded Google calendar that helps. I also have a weekly calendar "notepad" that I put on the fridge and fill out each Sunday. It helps me to put everything down on one sheet and go over it all, so I don't forget! It also helps me plan easier meals on the days that I know we're really busy.
Are you able and comfortable to ask for help from other parents? We try to carpool when we're in a bind, and it helps quite a bit.
Other than that, give yourself some grace and remember you're doing amazing things for your kiddos. We much prefer a busy schedule than being stuck at home, but it can be exhausting for sure.

It's great that your kids are so active! And applause to you, as a single mom, for supporting ways to enrich their lives.
There is a REALLY amazing app created specifically for just this! I utilized it when I was taking care of multiple ill family members, so I could keep up with appointments, whi wanted what meal for dinner, what phone calls I needed to make, etc. It made my life so much easier, especially because I tend to be forgetful.
It's PICNIIC, and is basically a wonder-app. You can use the family calendar, which every family member has access to. There's a to-do list area, so you can assign tasks, like "remember to bring your science project to school today," and dole out chores. There's also a shopping list area, so when the last chip is eaten, your kids can add it to the list, instead of yelling to you to buy more!
It will sync to Google calendar, too, so if this is your calendar of choice, you won't have to integrate a new one.
