Ideas for a toddler’s time capsule?
< 1 min read
My friend is considering asking people to bring an item to put in a time capsule for their daughter’s 1st birthday. What are some ideas for items to help remember the year in which their daughter was born? ![]() |

Oh, this is such a lovely idea.
My suggestions are:
- A newspaper of the date of her birthday and another from the day she was born
- A USB with some photos and videos
- Her first artwork
- Hand and foot prints
- Any hospital bracelets
- A guest book from family and friends.

What a lovely idea! As a music lover, my first though is a thumb drive of the songs that have been popular during her birth year, and maybe a playlist of her parent's favorite songs, or songs that have been meaningful to them. Other things that I can think of would be a quilt made from her baby outfits or one of her favorite infant toys.
Another idea is to have each person write a letter with their wishes and hopes for the future. These will have special meaning especially if they come from grandparents or other loved ones who may pass away in the intervening years. They could even arrange to have everyone record a voice or video clip telling the story of when they first met her.
Lastly, if this gift is intended to be opened on her 18th or 21st birthday, perhaps each person could bring a copy of their favorite book (adult novel, not children's book) with a message inscribed for her dated on her 1st Birthday.

I love this idea because it is very sentimental! Maybe your friend can ask those she invited for small things that could represent her daughter when she grows up. For example, an aunt wants her to love books, so she can put a book in it. If her grandmother wants her to be financially independent, she can put a purse or a wallet or a bank. People can give any item big or small as long as it represents their dreams and aspirations for the child. I think it will be much easier to decide what to give the little girl.
If I am one of the invitees, perhaps I'll give her some pens or pencils with her name engraved on them. Because I always encourage kids to write and enjoy writing.

What a fun idea! I think that sounds like a really great gift for when she's older.
I think a list or CD of popular songs for this year would be a fun idea. Kids songs or adult songs. I always like finding out what kind of bands and music my parents listened to when I was a kid.
A popular children's book would also be a good idea. Another idea would be printed photos with messages on the back of them from those who are participating in the time capsule.
