Learning to ride a bike
< 1 min read
We are having a hard time getting our 6-year-old twins to feel comfortable enough to ride a bike without training wheels? Does anyone have any suggestions on teaching not-so-adventurous kids how to ride a 2 wheeler? ![]() |

Do any of their friends ride bikes without training wheels? Sometimes just being around other kids who do is enough incentive. I also think that just letting them ride with training wheels a bit longer is fine. My son learned when he was 7 but he was so comfortable with his bike by then just from hours riding with the trainers that it was an easier tradition. Don't force it. Let them decide.

Have you tried using a strider bike (bike without pedals and no training wheels)? We used these with our kids and they never used training wheels. We loved them! When we did transition to a pedal bike, I found that working on a very (very!!) small hill helped them gain a little speed to feel better while balancing. It was way easier on our backs, that's for sure! We didn't have to bend down and hold the seat all the time.
