Reading apps and games for children
< 1 min read
What are the best reading apps or computer games that you have come across? My children use Lexia in school and using that outside of school is very expensive. I’m wondering if there are similar programs out there. ![]() |

There are a few reading apps that students can access at no cost if their child attends a school that already has a subscription to that app. It might be worth asking your school if they are currently accessing any that you weren't yet aware of?
Another great app is Skybrary for ages 2-9 and is a collection of interactive children’s stories and exciting live-action videos. It also comes with a video adventure linked to reading progress so that you can track where your child is at with their reading.

You did not say how old your kids are, but the 3-6-year-old kids in our family all loved ABC Mouse. There is a small fee for this app, however.
I did see that ABC Mouse has a learning app for older kids called Adventure Acadamy that we plan to try for our oldest, who turned 8.
We always try to keep our kids reading through the summer, and since they love their i-pads, your app idea is a great way to encourage this skill.
