Vaginal Birth after C-section
< 1 min read
I gave birth to my eldest via emergency C-section because my labor did not progress. Now that I am pregnant again, I am leaning toward having a vaginal birth this time. Did anyone here experience VBAC? How did it go? How was your recovery? ![]() |

I am a nurse but not an OB nurse. However, friends who have had c-sections have told me the following when it comes to vaginal birth after a c-section:
There are criteria that your OB will use to determine if it is safe for you to deliver naturally after a c-section. This information leads to a discussion with the provider, and they make a mutual decision on whether to pursue TOLAC (trial of labor after cesarean).
Depending on the facility, they may want the patient to deliver vaginally in the OR just in case something goes wrong. This decision is very facility dependent, but it’s good to ask right up front.
Most experiences are great with TOLAC! It is quicker to recover and easier to breastfeed because you don’t have to be careful about an abdominal incision/positioning.
I hope this helps!
