What age did you transition out of a crib?
< 1 min read
My two older kids were out of a crib very early…for different reasons. Either we were moving, or one of them was climbing out of it too much. Neither of them cared for it that much. They were out of a crib by 1 1/2-2 years old. My third child loves the crib so much that I see her staying in it for a while. At what ages did your children transition from a crib to a bed? What did that transition look like? ![]() |

My daughter wanted out of her crib as soon as she could crawl out! At about 15 months old, we took down the side of the crib so she could come into our room if she wanted as she continued to cry out to come into our room. She hasn’t looked back since and so we bought a toddler bed. She also hasn’t taken to the toddler bed and still sleeps with us at 2.5 yrs old. It probably would have worked out easier with a bed for her in our room earlier on. They are all so different!

If your daughter likes the crib, keep her in it until she outgrows it!
As you pointed out, all kids graduate from the crib for different reasons. The youngest seems to be in the crib the longest in my family.
I know no reason why they need to get out of a crib until they are ready.

My oldest two children moved into a big bed at about 20 months old. My oldest was an excellent sleeper and could literally sleep anywhere so it was a smooth transition. My second child was not a good sleeper but wanted to be like his big brother. He transitioned into a bed but still spent a lot of time coming into our bed through the night. My third child LOVED her crib. It was a safe, comfy place for her so she stayed in it until she was almost three years old. Even then, her crib converted to a toddler bed so she was still in the same one until she was almost 4 years old. My youngest child was a climber and began to climb out at around a year old so he went into a big bed for safety reasons.
Every child is different so there is no right or wrong time to transition into a big bed. Gosh they grow so fast don't they?
