We have 7 children and currently need to take 2 cars everywhere we go. We would love to seat us all in one vehicle but would prefer not to have to use a 12 seater mini-bus.
What vehicles would you recommend for large families that are cost effective and functional?

We loved our Chevy Suburban and could take the whole girls' softball team to games.
I heard that a Ford Expedition also seats 9 people and has good reviews. You don't see the old mini-vans much anymore, but my best friend loved her min-van for her big gang and was sad when she finally had to retire it.
I am sure it will be much nicer when you all can travel together once you decide which is the best choice for your large family. Happy car hunting!
We only have a small family but when we go out with the nieces and nephews, our Landcruiser wagon fits everyone comfortably with added seats in the back trunk area. When we have been out bush camping, the Troopy has fit everyone in, again using the trunk section with seating.
I like the idea of SUVs as well if they seat enough for your family.
SUVs would be great for small even big families. But if you are 12 and you prefer to have a minibus or van it is indeed the best choice because you can definitely save some fuel, money, and effort compared to bringing 2 separate cars. It also has plenty of room not only for the passengers but also for everyone's luggage.
You can check out the Ford Transit 12-Passenger van which is known for its wide legroom and comfortable interior. According to some reviews, it is also "smooth" for its stopping and turning considering that it is a huge vehicle.
Another option is the Chevrolet Express Passenger van. It is preferred by many because it has the feel as if you are driving a sedan with the benefits of a passenger van.
Check out other options based on your own preference, comfort and of course, budget.
