What is your go-to board game for a rainy day?
< 1 min read
We have lots of games but some are now too young for our 12 year-old son and some that are just too complicated. Do you have a great game that’s fun enough for the whole family no matter how many times you play it and no matter the age range? ![]() |

Our kids love board games too. Everyone still enjoys Monopoly and any card game like UNO or War.
Another family favorite but is not exactly a board game is BINGO. We play it frequently and take it wherever we go.
I'm disappointed that Checkers is not on our list of favorites, but I am happy to see that most of the kids enjoy Chess. We have a wide array of chess boards for every liking.
I am digging out my old dusty LIFE game this weekend to see how the family likes it. If they enjoy it as much as I do, we may be updating our ancient version soon.
Have fun!

As a family, we love our board game evenings. We have a wide variety of games that cater to different ages and skills, and of course we all have our favourites. Games like Monopoly, Clue, Battleship, and Risk are classics are are often our go-to choices if we can't settle on one of our newer games.
If you are looking for 2 player strategy games, then you can alway stick with Chess. Chess is a brilliant game in that you can start playing a basic game while very young, and continue learning new skills and strategies into your teen years and adulthood. Card games like UNO or Domino type games like Triomino's and Rummikub are fun and the games do not last too long. We also love Yahtzee - a dice game that involves a scoring system similar to card games like poker. Your son may need a bit of help with the scoring, but the game is great for kids and adults of all ages.
At the moment we are loving playing various versions of Ticket to Ride as well as Catan. These games require forward planning and Catan encourages co-operative play as you all work to reach your goals. Both games are more complex when played with a larger number of players.

Board games are a go-to any-day activity for our family!
Some of the most fun ones we have found lately have been the Disney set of ride-themed games - The Haunted Mansion and Jungle Cruise are our favorites. They are easy to play, but still offer a great challenge of strategy for ages 12+.
Trekking: The National Parks Game is really good, too. It's a unique game in that the developers are the parents and son who traveled all the parks, and then made the game themselves!
Wingspan is an intriguing game where you are a bird enthusiast and you are working, as an individual or with a team, to build your bird's habitat and maintain their environment.
The Ticket to Ride series of games are also really fun, and can be cooperative if you play with a lot of players. It's both strategic and adventurous.
Have fun!!

We LOVE board games. It's been hard to find a game that we all like (age rane 5-36!). Some of our favorites are:
Sequence (board game but with a deck of cards, strategy-based)
Life (specifically Super Mario Life, which is one of my favorites and I'm the adult!)
Trouble (a classic, but as my kids have gotten older they have embraced being strategic with this game and it's become way more fun than when they were little)
Farkle and Tenzie (both dice games)
Rummikube
UNO - this one never gets old! And there are a bunch of fun new variations like UNO Flip, DOS, and character-based decks
